My thesis installation! I wanted to take more photos but my camera died, whoops.
The hieroglyphs on the pedestal say “chnmsut m sshtah m kmt,” “Friends of Seshtah in Egypt.” It was the only way I could figure to make the title work with ancient Egyptian grammar.
The little mat of papyrus on the pedestal is pretty much only there to hide stains I didn’t have the energy to paint away. I MEAN… TO REFERENCE THE HISTORICAL SUBJECT MATTER AND ADD TACTILE INTERACTIVE ELEMENTS TO MY PRESENTATION, OF COURSE…
HEY GUYS, INPUT?
I’m choosing which pages to put up for the thesis show at my school! Obviously I can’t put them all up, so I figured like nine, three from each chapter. I’ve chosen my favorites, but I figure it’s good to get some other opinions as well, in case I’m passing up a good page for one that I just like for sentimental reasons.
So I guess what I’m asking is: which pages out of the three chapters of my thesis project are your favorites?
I FINISHED THE PAPERCRAFTING PART OF MY THESIS PROJECT
IT TOOK A FULL DAY OF WORK PLUS AN ALL-NIGHTER FUELED BY CHOCOLATE, GIRL SCOUT COOKIES, AND BLARING MUSIC, BUT I FINISHED ITTTT
I’ll scan them properly once I’m done reeling and catching up on the academic homework/chores that have been neglected in favor if this project ;3;
Latest finished pages! Now we’re talking about scribes and hieroglyphs!
Finally finished the latest chapter of Seshtah! There are fewer pages than in the last chapter-post because that one had the cover and an expository page added.
This chapter follows Hechnekhu, an artist in the tombs of the Valley of the Kings. In return for his services he lives with his family in the secret walled village now called Deir el Medina. Though when you’re a cat whose name literally means “secret” nothing’s too secret to find out about!
This chapter has two of my favorite pages so far, the first and the second-to-last.
GOT ANOTHER PAGE DONE hahaha oh man my back hurts
THIS WAS A TOUGH PAGE, so many intricate elements and SO MANY PEOPLE…! Jeez Hechnekhu couldn’t you like stand apart from your wife or something I mean I know you only see her two days a week but jeez was that pose hard to papercraft 8U
The platform his man-of-the-house-chair sits on hides a little storage area! Or so I’ve read in my research.
One more page and I’ll be done with this chapter, then there’ll only be one more chapter to go, aaa! (OH and I apologize for all the low quality pictures, I’ll scan the chapter once I’m done with it so you can see them in hidef ‘3’)
New pagesss
This is a very pale chapter, hm.
This is where the chapter shifts gears and talks about the artist’s family in Deir el Medina, the secret town built for the tomb-workers for the Valley of the Kings.
A remake of an old old old drawing of mine. Because I had pear slices for a snack this evening. Ahhh, I missed drawing these guys! Takashi, Machi, and Claudette from an old story of mine, Mahou Shounen.
We were supposed to whip up two coloring pages for class tomorrow morning and I spent too long on this so I just have the one. OOPS…. The teacher has made disparaging remarks about manga twice so far, too, can’t wait to see her reaction to the most aggressively kawaii thing I’ve drawn all semester.
Latest page finished! Detailing the process used to create paintings and painted reliefs. Plus some paintings for a couple future pages!
It takes me so long to get rolling on each chapter… At any rate, here’s the page I finished this evening.
