There was a fancy cocktail party event at the school, so I wore my new favorite Fancy Outfit To Wear At Fancy Gatherings. The necklace is a replica of one found in Tutankhamun’s tomb and the earrings are vaguely art-deco, so that matches the Egyptian theme to my thesis project! The rest of the outfit is pretty Grecian-inspired instead, but hey, there was a Hellenistic period in Egypt too so it still works.

SORRY SORRY REDO THE FIRST TIME WASN’T WORKING SO I DELETED IT

It’s the Muses! I’m going to be putting this along one edge of my graduation cap. ‘u’ I had to chop it into two pieces so you could see them at a better resolution. You can see them in an unbroken line here.

Trying to stay awake at a conference a month or so ago, I started creeping on …drawing the people around me who were also in varying stages of wakefulness.  They turned out best when they weren’t too close, both because then they couldn’t notice me drawing them and because I could break their faces down into simple shadows. (I have a habit of noticing more detail than it is advisable to try to draw if I’m too close to a subject.)

Anyway yeah, woo I’m pleased with how these came out, glad I had my markers with me that day!

athenaaaa
I was feeling artistically stagnant, so I drew everyone’s favorite no-nonsense goddess.
I was flipping through some books about greek pottery and I saw her in poses like this once in a while, she just looked so bored and judgmental haha oh athena…

Emptying out my SD card today, I found this! Can’t believe I forgot to post it! Even if it is rather simplistic, I still quite like it.
I made it for the school library last Christmas, for their book sale sign. (the idea was “books make great stocking stuffers!”)  I was rather proud of my creative use of scrap paper that had text ‘u’
Yesterday was my last day working there… I’m gonna miss it, that was a great job with really great coworkers. ;3;

Thesis Papercraft Process

Hey guys! I took these pictures partway through my thesis project and never really did anything with them, so I thought I’d post ‘em! Here’s a teaser, the rest is under the cut! (is that a pun? kind of, I suppose.)

My thesis installation! I wanted to take more photos but my camera died, whoops.

The hieroglyphs on the pedestal say “chnmsut m sshtah m kmt,” “Friends of Seshtah in Egypt.” It was the only way I could figure to make the title work with ancient Egyptian grammar.

The little mat of papyrus on the pedestal is pretty much only there to hide stains I didn’t have the energy to paint away. I MEAN… TO REFERENCE THE HISTORICAL SUBJECT MATTER AND ADD TACTILE INTERACTIVE ELEMENTS TO MY PRESENTATION, OF COURSE…

The final chapter of my thesis project, following Menna the scribe. Menna’s secretly my favorite, shhhh don’t tell Hechnekhu or Unas

For the page showing how to fold a scroll I attempted to papercraft them like usual… and eventually gave up, so each of those are basically Barbie-sized folded scrolls of papyrus, haha.

Now I have to insert the text and the non-illustrated pages. So close yet so far…

Finally finished the latest chapter of Seshtah!  There are fewer pages than in the last chapter-post because that one had the cover and an expository page added.

This chapter follows Hechnekhu, an artist in the tombs of the Valley of the Kings. In return for his services he lives with his family in the secret walled village now called Deir el Medina. Though when you’re a cat whose name literally means “secret” nothing’s too secret to find out about!

This chapter has two of my favorite pages so far, the first and the second-to-last.
